Our offices are located in the historic Stroud Mansion, built in 1795 by the family that founded the borough of Stroudsburg, our county seat. The rooms of the Stroud Mansion are open to the public as a museum filled with exhibits and local artifacts from times gone by. In addition to the permanent displays, each year we offer a new exhibit of specific interest. The mansion is also home to the Elizabeth D. Walters Library, a resource open to the public searching for local historical or genealogical information. We also offer tours and educational programs at the Bell School, a one-room schoolhouse located in Cherry Valley that was in use up until 1953. The Association also owns the Driebe Freight Station, now being leased by the Miracles Happen Thrift Shoppe, run by the Zion United Church of Christ. Check out our Events and Calendar page for events and educational programs throughout the year, and please browse through our Online Gift Shop, which is filled with many books, maps, prints and gift items of local historical interest. We invite you to explore all that the Monroe County Historical Association has to offer, and to help us fulfill our mission by becoming a member.
